Top 45 Blockchain Companies at Consensus Singapore 2018 – Part 8

On the 19th and 20th of September 2018, Consensus: Singapore 2018 was held at the Marina Bay Sands. OkayKrypto’s media team had the privilege of attending this event as part of the event’s media coverage and had the priceless opportunity of interviewing the heads of the best companies in the blockchain space.

Here are the interviews we conducted with 2 companies. Part 8.

1) Stemera

OkayKrypto: What does your company do?

Navin Manghan (Stemera): We are an education technology company that does it’s business in a blockchain manner either with or without a cryptocurrency. We are trying to create e-learning and advancements in education. We are using blockchain technology in DNA Fingerprinting so that every certificate is authenticated such that companies know that the information on the certificate is genuine and has been verified. This makes the process more transparent as companies can get information about the person such as their identity, where they are from, where they have studied and their competency levels.

OkayKrypto: Who’s your primary target market?

Navin Manghan (Stemera): The company’s target market would be students, recruitment companies, manufacturing companies, educational institutions and investors.

OkayKrypto: How does your company stand out from its competitors?

Navin Manghan (Stemera): We have done an analysis which compares our company with our existing competitors. Our project is similar to BitDegree, Coursera, Udacity and Udemy. Giving a guarantee authenticated certification which is transparent makes the company stands out. BitDegree is the only one that is using blockchain and how we stand out compared to them is the fact that we guarantee authentic certification. We understand the needs of the Asian market. Our platform enables employers to receive high-skilled workers, increase their number of users and to advertise their products and services. We provide scholarships which are funded by corporations – the hiring companies. These companies are able to train their future employees this way. The qualification that we provide students is a HybriDegree which is unique.

OkayKrypto: In the current market condition, what do you think is the most effective way to increase media visibility, reach out to investors and raise funds?

Navin Manghan (Stemera): As a start-up, you need to promote your platform and ideas and pitch about them. There are two factors. One is that investors need to believe in your product or your idea. Then, you need to give an investment forecast – what are they going to get out of it, how much are they going to get, how it is going to be and what their returns will be. If these two factors have been fulfilled and investors have bought into it, you can have some money coming in and be successful. With the market being down, we have to stand out by showing that our project is viable, reliable and progressive. It does not matter if you are doing an ICO or STO. What matters is that investors are confident in you and your project.

OkayKrypto: Which do you think has the most impact on your business now in terms of fund raising?

1) ICO Telegram Groups

2) Crypto Traditional Media

3) Private Investors Events

Navin Manghan (Stemera): I’ll go for the third choice – the private investors events. Because it’s going to be one-to-one. You are going to see them and talk to them. They will question you and you will answer them. And investors can gain more confidence in your product which can influence them into buying your product. However, Telegram is important in terms of news promotion awareness and how it works. But it is not going to be the most influential for your project. I would prefer directly being in touch with investors.

2) Neo World

OkayKrypto: What does your company do?

Kane Deng (Neo World): We are a gaming company. So, we are building a virtual world which is actually a sandbox game where users can create an avatar in the game and purchase land parcels, build buildings and interact with each other. So it’s a virtual world like the movie, “Ready Player One”. That’s what we’re doing.

OkayKrypto: Who is your primary target market?

Kane Deng (Neo World): People who want to have a second identity and poeple who want to create something in the virtual world. Essentially, gamers and people who like to create things.

OkayKrypto: How does your company stand out from its competitors?

Kane Deng (Neo World): We have a different mechanism where we use blockchain technology and token economics to incentivise users. Most projects are still building simple blockchain games. So, I would say that we do not really have a competitor right now. We have a DAU (daily active users) of over 14,000 users every day. So basically, that’s what makes us one of the largest blockchain games in the world so far. I guess it’s our designs, concept and the blockchain technology that make us different from others.

I would advise investors and people who are interested in us to try our game, enter our virtual community, create an avatar and find the virtual me in the game to talk about business. Everything is virtual but real at the same time.

OkayKrypto: In the current market condition, what do you think is the most effective way to increase media visibility, reach out to investors and raise funds?

Kane Deng (Neo World): So first, I believe a good game will spread through word of mouth. Our community is doing everything for us. They make videos which we showed to our audience earlier. They run blogs and create advertisements for us. We believe that as a gaming company, if we create a game well, people will spread the game for us. So, that’s our focus. We’re focused on the game and not crypto itself. Essentially, we are focused on how to make our users happy.

OkayKrypto: Which do you think has the most impact on your business now in terms of fund raising?

1) ICO Telegram Groups

2) Crypto Traditional Media

3) Private Investors Events

Kane Deng (Neo World): For the last six months, we have been promoting our game by having media coverage to explain the basic concepts and the logic behind our game and how it can be played. This usually is in the form of video demos. Then, we have offline meet-ups where we interact with users. That’s the best way to educate the community. For Telegram, there is too many information and there are other methods that we have tried which have not been effective. Sandbox games are usually more complex than other games. It takes time to learn; for people to visually look at it to understand the concepts. So, it takes some time. Therefore, we prefer crypto traditional media.

3) MyEtherWallet

OkayKrypto: What does your company do?

Stephen (MyEtherWallet): MyEtherWallet is an empty, client-side interface that lets anyone interact with the Ethereum blockchain. With our free services, users can hold ETH and ERC20 tokens, send transactions, bid on ENS names, and interact with smart contracts all as simple as clicking a few buttons.

OkayKrypto: Who is your primary target market?

Stephen (MyEtherWallet): Our target market is new and old adopters of blockchain technology. Our goal is to create an environment where anyone interested in the field can easily jump in, learn, and feel secure during the whole process.

OkayKrypto: How does your company stand out from its competitors?

We have community, trust, and a large wealth of articles in our Knowledge Base that are perfect for a beginner looking for a place to start. We emphasize support, communication, education, and simplified user interfaces to drive mass adoption.
