Top 45 Blockchain Companies at Consensus Singapore 2018 – Part 3

On the 19th and 20th of September 2018, Consensus: Singapore 2018 was held at the Marina Bay Sands. OkayKrypto’s media team had the privilege of attending this event as part of the event’s media coverage and had the priceless opportunity of interviewing the heads of the best companies in the blockchain space.

Here are the interviews we conducted with 6 companies. Part 3

1) Bravo

OkayKrypto: What does your company do?

Dr Hector Rodriguez (Bravo): Bravo is a blockchain protocol and a crypto payment app.

Bravo is a new hybrid blockchain protocol built with a “mashed up” of different consensus and privacy algorithms. The idea is a multitasking / multi functionality blockchain with different layers of privacy and speed under the control of the end user.

As for the payment app, BRAVO Pay, it was built to validate the concept of mobile private micro-payments. This was originally launched as a gratuity payment app but our community understands the need and it evolved it into general micro-payments from artists, street musicians, service providers to content producers, streamers and even micro-merchants like farmers market.

OkayKrypto: How does your company stand out from its competitors?

Dr Hector Rodriguez (Bravo): What distinguishes our company from others is that payment apps in the market function only with fiat payments, not blockchain crypto payment so, on this regard, we are first in the market as a true cryptocurrency payments app. As far as blockchain competitors, our protocol is first in the market to combine several consensus algorithms into one technology with strong focus on user experience as we believe the bridge to user adoption is a seamless user experience.

As you know, the market is flooded of exchanges and third party straight through wallets. Bravo is a blockchain protocol and a payments application launched in US as a beta during our R&D period but it is ultimately a 100% seamless crypto payments application without the need of complex keys or exchanges.

Another distinction is that we are not only a payments company, we are a blockchain company that created a unique patent pending hybrid protocol to support payments and any other transaction beyond payments in need of immutability and privacy such as titles, visas, and security to name a few. We are custodians of the protocol which the ecosystem will be able to use.

OkayKrypto: Who makes up your target audience?

Dr Hector Rodriguez (Bravo): Micropayments. It all started with valet attendants and service professionals in US but then, BRAVO started moving into content producers, video streamer and the music industry which turned out to be the largest audience. This because artists can be paid by their fans without exposing their personal information in addition to a sleek message utility which connects them with their fans.

Dr Hector Rodriguez (Bravo):

Email: investors@trybravo.com & support@trybravo.com

OkayKrypto: What got you into the blockchain space and how long have you been in this industry?

Dr Hector Rodriguez (Bravo): Well, I like to start by technology. Years ago, 2002-2005, during my medical research, I worked on a model predicting recurrence of liver cancer after liver transplant. We used ANN with great accuracy. I continued learning technology and since then, it became park of my problem solving discipline. Fast forward 2013-2014, I started focusing on blockchain and real life applications such as BRAVO.

OkayKrypto: In the current market condition, what do you think is the most effective way to get market viability, reach out to investors and raise funds?

Dr Hector Rodriguez (Bravo): I believe a good product on the market with users and a good team with a solid business plan makes a difference. Best is a reversed ICO as the participants know the company is already established with less risk.

OkayKrypto: Which do you think has the most impact on your business now in terms of fund raising?

  1. ICO Telegram group
  2. Crypto traditional media
  3. Private investors events

Dr Hector Rodriguez (Bravo):  All of them. Every single aspect is important not only for ICOs but also for company organic growth.

OkayKrypto: What’s your main route for fund raising currently?

Dr Hector Rodriguez (Bravo): Private sale which just started. Eventually public sale which will be announced in due time.

OkayKrypto: What made you switch from being a medical doctor to get involved in blockchain?

Was it a sudden thing or an evolution over time?

Dr Hector Rodriguez (Bravo): It is an evolution but I have never really switched, once a medical doctor, always a medical doctor. It’s a call! However, I believe my initial ANN (AI) project I mentioned above turned a switch on technology and changed my problem solving perspective. This time my hypothesis was not how to fix a disease but how to financially empower a person while protecting the privacy. In a way, financially empowering a person goes in line with my physician social responsibility but in general, once you learn a technology, it’s natural to continue improving and learning. This led me into blockchain.

I believe being a medical doctor taught me a strong discipline with problem solving skill that can be used in other industries and endeavors.  Then, you would think medicine and technology are different concepts but frankly, they are closely intertwined.

OkayKrypto:  What tips would you want to share with any entrepreneurs who are looking to start their own blockchain projects in the space right now?

Dr Hector Rodriguez (Bravo):  It’s important to know technology well and that blockchain is not really applicable to every single project, to make sure there is a real use case and don’t force blockchain into the project. Same for AI. These 2 technologies are not necessarily applicable to every problem.

OkayKrypto: Any lessons you want to give to investors in the crypto space?

Dr Hector Rodriguez (Bravo): Look for established companies with known traction and some form of product already on the market. Look for real use case platform, the team and better yet, consider reverse ICOs as they are typically start ups with a product in the market with a better chance to succeed.

2) GOB Platform

OkayKrypto: What does your company do?

Hamish Kwon (GOB Platform): GOB Platform is making a blockchain platform and we have a GOB main net and a universal hub of blockchain. We use the technique of AutoXML which creates XML files automatically to convert all the data on the blockchain. So with the AutoXML engine, we convert all the data to comply with certain data standards so all the block chains can exchange the data with each other. There’s a problem that Ethereum dapps have to be run in their own ecosystem and EOS ones have to be run in their own ecosystem. The block chains can’t exchange with each other. With our hub, they can exchange with each other and they can also make a smart contract because we use data from XML files. It’s not quite different from the normal smart contracts because we use transaction data and the smart contract data. You can see videos about the data of the smart contract so people can use smart contracts very easily and it is very convenient.

OkayKrypto: Who is your primary target market?

Hamish Kwon (GOB Platform): We have three target markets. You can do Enterprise Application Integration (EAI), Big Data analysis via the Big Data dashboard for a business enterprise and for the customers, we offer fully decentralised P2P transactions so they don’t have to pay a lot to the coin market.

OkayKrypto: How does your company stand out from its competitors?

Hamish Kwon (GOB Platform): Other companies put only the paid transaction records on the blockchain. But we put that data in the blockchain together with the XML files. For business enterprises, we offer big opportunities for our users. All the dapps of the blockchains are able to exchange with each other. So, the market will become bigger compared to where it is now if we were to launch next year.

OkayKrypto: How can people contact you?

Hamish Kwon (GOB Platform):

Website: www.geoblue.io

Our email address can be found on our website that can be used to contact us. We are still doing R&D and we’re still developing our main net and hub.

OkayKrypto: In the current market condition, what do you think is the most effective way to increase media visibility, reach out to investors and raise funds?

Hamish Kwon (GOB Platform): The project that we have made is the most important thing because lots of people are claiming that they have certain ideas but they have no project. We’re doing our project with the Korean government. In this moment, I don’t think we have to do much marketing because people will want to join our platform as it’s really easy to use and they won’t have to download our platform. It’s on our website.

OkayKrypto: Which do you think has the most impact on your business now in terms of fund raising?

1) ICO Telegram Groups

2) Crypto Traditional Media

3) Private Investors Events

Hamish Kwon (GOB Platform): I think that private investors events are very important because even at Consensus, I have seen a lot of people just meeting together and taking photos. People are being introduced to each other and seeing if they can do business together in the near future. They are already saying that. So, maybe one-to-one and face-to-face meetings where you can have conversations and share skills and ideas are more important.

3) BX.BET

OkayKrypto: What does your company do?

Christian Lenz (BX.BET): BX is creating a decentralised betting and prediction market which is an ecosystem on which you can bet on many future events and we are focusing on three different markets. Sports is the most obvious one as sports and betting have been together for centuries and we also have prediction markets which is something I’m really excited about. The most obvious example is always, “Who’s going to be the next president?” and you can ask other fun things like, “Is there going to be rain tomorrow in Singapore?” You can bet on anything. You can also set up private bets just between friends and close groups of people which can be really fun. So, what we’re really trying to do is bring the fun to betting.

OkayKrypto: Who is your primary target market?

Christian Lenz (BX.BET): We’re running a two step approach. We are building the underlying infrastructure and on top of this, we are building several interfaces. One of them is going to be the BX.BET which is like a mobile web interface. This is going to be based in Malta which is in Europe and that’s where we are basically going to be operating from. Betting in Europe is quite strong. But, we’re also focusing a little bit more on Asia and also America.

OkayKrypto: How does your company stand out from its competitors?

Christian Lenz (BX.BET): For competitors, I think the most famous one for prediction markets would be Augur which just recently launched. We’re different because we are coming from the gambling industry and have been doing this for years. So, we are also running several other companies in this sphere and so we know exactly what we’ve learned to do and how we want to do it. I think one of the most outstanding things is the team. We have a really strong team coming from this industry and we’re well connected. Also, I think that our broader focus and the fact that we’re not concentrating on one vertical really makes us stand out.

OkayKrypto: How can people contact you?

Christian Lenz (BX.BET): So I think the easiest thing is to join our Telegram group. Our whole founding team is really active in the group and you can also find me and just write me a direct message.

Telegram: @bxbet

Website: https://bx.bet/en/

OkayKrypto: In the current market condition, what do you think is the most effective way to increase media visibility, reach out to investors and raise funds?

Christian Lenz (BX.BET): In the current market, this is quite difficult for every project. Actually, we had planned to do our ICO at the moment but we decided against it as it’s not the right time. The best thing is to just show that you’re around, talk to people, network and also build a strong community around your project simultaneously. I think that this is the best way as people will know about you and you will meet some people who might be interested in your project.

OkayKrypto: Which do you think has the most impact on your business now in terms of fund raising?

1) ICO Telegram Groups

2) Crypto Traditional Media

3) Private Investors Events

Christian Lenz (BX.BET): I think it depends a little bit on which phase you are in. We’re actually a community project so it’s really important for us to gain a community. But of course at the moment, meeting with crowd funds and private investors events are really good and important as you can talk to the right people. You can be introduced to them and get to talk to them directly to pitch your current company and project. I think in the current state of the market, the private investors events would be the most important. Telegram groups are a really nice way to stay in touch with the community and get some feedback.

4) Zen Protocol

OkayKrypto: What does your company do?

Asher Manning (Zen Protocol): Zen Protocol is a platform for decentralized peer-to-peer financial instruments and contractual obligations so it enables two parties to enter into a financial agreement which is enforced by a smart contract. With this kind of technology, we can enter positions like a Contract For Difference (CFD) on some external instruments and this can be executed by a public and decentralised network, on a completely trustless basis. So, mutually distrusting parties can enter financial agreements. Anyone can create their own financial instrument.

OkayKrypto: Who is your primary target market?

Asher Manning (Zen Protocol): The target market is people who are interested in administering some kind of instrument. Either they’re unable to do this in the traditional financial system due to regulatory encumberence and perhaps they would just like to expand their offering into crypto markets. Our users would also be people who are interested in buying these assets or people who are just interested in quickly and efficiently entering into contractual obligations with one another.

OkayKrypto: How does your company stand out from its competitors?

Asher Manning (Zen Protocol): For our competitors, it’s very difficult to define who exactly they are. We have a live main net. Our technology exists and it’s working. Our main competitive advantage is that you can go and use it today as it’s working.

OkayKrypto: How can people contact you?

Asher Manning (Zen Protocol):

Website: zenprotocol.com

Email address: info@zenprotocol.com, asher@zenprotocol.com

Telegram: @zenprotocol

All of us are also very active on Telegram and that’s probably the best way to get in contact with us.

OkayKrypto: In the current market condition, what do you think is the most effective way to increase media visibility, reach out to investors and raise funds?

Asher Manning (Zen Protocol): That’s a good question. I’m not very certain about that. I’m not interested in raising funds at the moment so I haven’t been paying much attention to that sector of the market for a while.

OkayKrypto: Which do you think has the most impact on your business now in terms of fund raising?

1) ICO Telegram Groups

2) Crypto Traditional Media

3) Private Investors Events

Asher Manning (Zen Protocol): Telegram is very important to us. It’s the focus of our community and we have a very large Telegram Group with a lot of great community members. I’m very happy with that. We don’t really have any private events for our investors and maybe we will meet with them at conferences. And, people could also come to our office and I can meet with anyone there which is very important to us as well.

5) The Matter

OkayKrypto: What does your company do?

Vitaly Dubinin (The Matter): The Matter is focused on the scalability of blockchain. Bitcoin passes like seven transactions per second. Ethereum completes 16 transactions per second. We can do 25,000 transactions per second. (Well, actually 30,000 in our tests). This helps Ethereum to finally be applicable for businesses because you can issue any kind of crypto derivative in the market right now but you cannot trade it. Do you remember, Crypto Kitties? They shut down their whole network for three days and there were only 25,000 users. So, if you want to go on scale and do business around blockchain, and not just do an ICO and raise money, you need scale and speed and we provide both. So we’re kind of like Amazon’s web services – not in terms of storage, but in terms of speed. We’re the best in the market for this. If you’ve ever heard about Plasma Protocol adapted by Vitalik Buterin and Joseph Poon, we’re actually the main developers behind it.

OkayKrypto: Who is your primary target market?

Vitaly Dubinin (The Matter): We are focusing on decentralised systems, decentralised exchanges, digital asset managers, like all the games in which you can trade things like armour, pets, art and special weapons and payment systems because we can do everything fast. 25,000 transactions per second is faster than Visa and Mastercard combined.

OkayKrypto: How does your company stand out from its competitors?

Vitaly Dubinin (The Matter): There are not many competitors out there right now. There is one good one out there right now but they have not published their metrics yet. It’s a very early stage right now in blockchain. Previously, blockchain and all the coins out there were mainly an investment resource. It hasn’t been utilised by businesses. We want to change that because we see great potential in it. Lots of issues that are trying to be solved by blockchain right now can be solved by centralised systems without any problem. But decentralised systems still have a lot of potential and technologically, the market is not there. So, we want to solve that. In our engineering team, we’ve got 13 engineers. They’re all winners of all the Ethereum Hackathons like the ones held in Denver and Waterloo. Recently, we won the one in Berlin about a week ago so our technical team is super stellar. So, we can deliver pretty sophisticated technology.

OkayKrypto: How can people contact you?

Vitaly Dubinin (The Matter):

Email: hello@thematter.io

OkayKrypto: In the current market condition, what do you think is the most effective way to increase media visibility, reach out to investors and raise funds?

Vitaly Dubinin (The Matter): I think that right now ICOs are dead and VCs are in their prime. So, we need to follow the VC track. Since VCs are usually industry experts or ex-entrepreneurs who have gone down this road, know how difficult and challenging it is to raise money and to get customers, they mainly appreciate customer traction as it is a validation of your wild idea. It shows whether it will actually be utilised by someone whenever somebody is ready to pay for your crazy idea because there are lots of crazy ideas. Not everyone wants to pay for it. So, if you find your first customer who is willing to give you their cold, hard cash that they earned from hard labour, that’s a validation and if you get a second, third, fourth customer, I would say that your revenue doesn’t matter. If you generate the customer traction, that’s the main validation of success right now. So I would advise anyone who is keen to raise funds to just forget about ICOs and to focus on business traction. Sell your company and sell your product.

OkayKrypto: Which do you think has the most impact on your business now in terms of fund raising?

1) ICO Telegram Groups

2) Crypto Traditional Media

3) Private Investors Events

Vitaly Dubinin (The Matter): I guess, pretty much all of them. In business, some very weird contacts can be very successful and some very strong contacts can lead nowhere. For example, yesterday I spoke with Changpeng Zhao for like 10 minutes and today, he texted me.

6) Propy

OkayKrypto: What does your company do?

Vera Vezneva (Propy): Propy is a Silicon Valley-based global blockchain property transaction platform and we enable the buying and selling of real estates using the major cryptocurrencies as well as 50 different fiat currencies. So, Propy is like Amazon.com for real estate because we have our own marketplace and properties from all over the world. We have our own transaction platform and all the transactions conducted on our blockchain based platform is secure with smart contracts.

OkayKrypto: Who is your primary target market?

Vera Vezneva (Propy): We have several target markets. One of them is definitely the Asian market which is huge as we have people from Asia buying properties overseas in places like Europe and California. We also have buyers who are crypto influencers and people who have been in the crypto space since the very beginning who would like to diversify their assets and that is why they are using Propy to buy more real estate using cryptocurrencies and fiat.

OkayKrypto: How does your company stand out from its competitors?

Vera Vezneva (Propy): Well, we have a huge advantage as we have been in this space since the very beginning. We have executed so many transactions on our platform.

OkayKrypto: How can people contact you?

Vera Vezneva (Propy):

Marketplace website: propy.com

They can also download our Propy app on their Android and Apple mobile devices. If your dream property is not on our marketplace, you can write to our contact team about what exactly you would like and we will get back to you in a couple of days with some recommendations for great properties.

OkayKrypto: In the current market condition, what do you think is the most effective way to increase media visibility, reach out to investors and raise funds?

Vera Vezneva (Propy): Nowadays, there are a lot of ICOs out there that are proving to be scams. They do not meet the expectations people have of them. My advice would be for companies to have something that is built which is real, have a working MVP that can be shown and to show a proof of concept and a proof of work because just having a concept is not enough anymore.

OkayKrypto: Which do you think has the most impact on your business now in terms of fund raising?

1) ICO Telegram Groups

2) Crypto Traditional Media

3) Private Investors Events

Vera Vezneva (Propy): I would say all of them. We have our own Telegram group and we are using all these channels – just for different purposes.
